BD-twitteratiThe Twitterati - 20 who are influencing your company’s image – whether you know it not

Most of us, if we spend any time at all thinking about Twitter, wonder exactly what it is.

Another time-drowning web fad? A way to feel like you have a connection to Shaquille O’Neal? A brand-shaping viral communications tool which has 27 million monthly unique users in the US and is receiving 33 million website visits?

Probably a combination of all three. One thing is for sure, a number of writers, renewable energy fans and industry executives have adopted the tool, and their “tweets” gain attention, shape perception, and contribute increasingly to the transmission of ideas throughout the industry.

Who are the leading practitioners of the art – the Twitterati that are shaping the biofuels landscape with their bursts of 140-character or less messages – sometimes as many as 50 or more per day to hundreds , thousands, or tens of thousands of followers.

How it works. One of the advantages of twitter is its simplicity – no need to set up a blog, a website, or even learn much about the web. Just go to twitter.com, set up an account, and start posting anything you like as long as its 140 characters or less and meets a decency standard.

What’s a tweet? An individual message. Who sees it? Your “followers” , or people following a given topic.

That’s about it – not much to it. It’s simplicity is part of its power. And, within the world of Twitter, who are the 20 who command attention when it comes to biofuels. Here’s a nonscientific selection of some of the brightest, the biggest, and the best.
