Bio Architecture Lab nabs CEO from Aventine; commercialization, research SVPs from, Mascoma, Martek, in ramp up for macroalgae developer

In California, Bio Architecture Lab, a University of Washington spinoff developing low cost sugars for biofuel production using macroalgae as a feedstock, said that it has hired former Aventine COO  Daniel Trunfio as its new CEO. Trunfio also spent 23 years at Shell.

BAL also announced that former Mascoma VP R&D Vineet Rajgarhia will join as SVP for Research, and former Martek VP Development  Jaouad Fichtali will join as  SVP of Development and Engineering, to oversee the transition to commercialization.

Bio Architecture Lab has applied synthetic biology and enzyme design to produce low cost, scalable, sustainable source of sugars for biofuel and renewable chemical production from aquafarmed, native macroalgae.   and products. The company, founded in Seattle, is now bad in Berkeley, California and is planning commercial operations in Chile.
