Biofuels Bits: "Ask POET" debuts on YouTube; Synthetic Genomics names new CTO, Solazyme nabs new SVP-Manufacturing;
In California, Synthetic Genomics announced that Jim Flatt, Ph.D. will join the company as Chief Technology Officer , and will be responsible for managing and coordinating all the innovative science programs at SGI. Flatt joins SGI from Mascoma Corporation, where he was EVP of Research and Development and Operations and Acting President in the second half of 2009, after several years at Martek, where he led all aspects of product and process development, clinical research, scientific affairs, new product discovery, and intellectual property development associated with products derived from microalgae.
Also in California, Solazyme hired Adriano Galvez as SVP of manufacturing and process development. Galvez was previously CTO at EdeniQ , SVP of technology at Altra Biofuels, and worked previously at Chippewa Valley Ethanol, Delta-T, and ADM.
In South Dakota, POET recently launched a monthly online video series titled “Ask POET,” where host Nathan Schock hosts CEO Jeff Broin this week answering “When do you think consumers will be able to go to the gas station and fill up their cars with cellulosic ethanol?” from Domestic Fuel’s Joanna Schroeder, and “what can the industry do to prevent another blend wall after E15″ from Biofuels Digest.
