Alion to develop models to assess pennycress biofuels

| July 23, 2010

In Virginia, Alion Science and Technology announced that it has received a contract from the Biotechnology Research and Development Center (BRDC) to develop models for assessing the processing technologies and overall economics of pennycress biofuels.

The contract from BRDC is funded by USDA  in support of Arvens Technology, which plans to establish geographically dispersed, advanced biofuel production plants using pennycress seeds. Pennycress produces twice the oil per acre as soybeans and can be grown by U.S. farmers in the winter and harvested in the spring between segments of a typical corn/soybean rotation.
