$564M for Integrated Bioenergy projects: Most-Read Stories of the Year #3

July 26, 2010 |

December is usually a slow month for readership, but the DOE’s announcement of $564 million in Recovery Act grants to 19 integrated bioenergy projects attracted a huge readership on the 68th anniversary of Pearl Harbor Day, commemorating the beginning of a war between Japan and more than 40 nations that had its origins in trade disputes over control of oil and commodity resources in Southeast Asia.

Notable in the awards were the emphasis on renewable chemicals and jet fuels as well as automobile fuels. Projects featuring strategic partnerships, such as the Algenol-Dow project in Texas, were notably successful among what was rumored to be more than 1,000 applicants for the grants.
