EU's 30% tariff on Pakistani ethanol may be dropped: report

October 12, 2010 |

In Pakistan, the European Commission has proposed dropping the 30% import duty levied against Pakistani ethanol trade. A package of trade assistance programs have also been proposed, but details were not available.

The proposals are awaiting approval by the EU’s 27 member states. Even with the duty applied, roughly 80% of Pakistan’s ethanol production is exported. Currently exports are at 250,000 metric tons per year but when the duty is eliminated, that figure could jump to 300,000 tons.
