Vilsack touts rural development in Georgia ethanol visit

November 1, 2010 |

In Georgia, U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack and U.S. Rep. Sanford Bishop visited the First United Ethanol LLC (FUEL) biofuel plant located near Pelham. The Secretary’s visit highlighted his desire to create a strong, vibrant rural economy which will be further supported through several U.S. Department of Agriculture initiatives announced by Vilsack on Oct. 21.

FUEL currently employs 62 people and built the first biofuel plant with a production capacity of 100 million gallons per year in the southeastern United States. FUEL officials said the plant has had a significant impact on Southwest Georgia since production of ethanol fuel began in 2008.
