Indian panel suggests 50-60 percent cut in ethanol blending rates

In India, sugar mills are getting twitchy because a high level expert panel has suggested that national oil companies only blend 400-500 million liters of ethanol during 2011 rather than the 1 billion liters they sought during a recent supply tender and the 600 million liters they’ve already been contracted for. The country’s agriculture minister has said the panel’s only role is to set prices, not to dictate blending policy, but the situation is still far from resolved.
