Why they're Hot: LanzaTech – #47 so far (#41 last year)

November 24, 2010 |

The Latest News: In November, LanzaTech announced that its cooperative research and development agreement (CRADA) with PNNL has been given final approval by the DOE.  The first phase of the CRADA work will focus on converting some of LanzaTech’s products to drop in jet fuel. Lanzatech’s clean energy technology can produce 2,3-Butanediol (2,3-BD), an oxygenate which can be used to make hydrocarbon fuels – true drop in fuels that can replace diesel, jet fuel and gasoline – and high value chemicals.

The Digest’s Take: LanzaTech has been on a real tear all year, with major strategic deals, progress towards commercialization, and a new CEO. Inexplicably, it has been moving down the Hot 50 ladder – probably the result of being a New Zealand company developing projects in China, which is a tough sell in terms of visibility. But the company has credibility to burn and look to see its rankings pick up substantially when the invited international selectors have their say.
