Bunge may reopen Brazilian soy crusher, as B5 biodiesel surges

In Brazil, Reuters is reporting that Bunge is considering whether or not to reopen the Ponta Grossa soy crushing plant.  The plant was closed a year ago, but Jorge Luis Pitela, president of the soy crushing industry workers’ union,  has stated that 50 union workers are preparing the facility for a possible reopening in January, 2011, when the soy crop harvest begins.  The plant can crush up to 3,300 tons per day.  Possibly prompting the reopening of the plant is the growth of Brazilian biodiesel demand is the mandated B5 blend.
