Citrotecno is preparing to process its first gallon of ethanol from citrus waste in Spain

In Spain, Citrotecno is preparing to process its first gallon of ethanol from citrus waste near Valencia. The company plans to process between 120,000 and 150,000 tons of waste from farms in Valencia and Murcia to produce roughly 5.25 million liters of ethanol. A further 375,000 liters of D-limonene, an essential oil used in the pharmaceutical and food industries as an aroma and flavoring, will also be produced. This by-product will also be used as a solvent for resins, pigments, inks and paints, and to manufacture adhesives or as an additive in fragrances. It has been estimated that the plant will produce 68,000 cubic meters of fully purified water, and 19,000 tons of dried citrus pulp for animal feed.
