Australia pushes for solar and biodiesel in government buildings

| December 20, 2010

In Australia, the Sunshine Coast council is pushing for alternative energy creation, including solar and biodiesel, to cut energy consumption in local government buildings, under the Energy Transition Plan.
One of the front runners from a call for expressions of interest includes W2 Power, a company that builds biogas power plants to burn domestic and hospital waste and produce a gas fuel identical to LPG with little to no emissions. That gas can then be fed into a gas turbine to create electricity.
Preliminary plans show construction of a plant to consume 10,000 tons of waste and create up to 5MW of electricity, enough to power 5,000 homes per year.
