Solvert to develop new biomass-to-chemicals plant in UK

January 28, 2011 |

In the UK, Solvert has unveiled plans to develop the UK’s first manufacturing facility producing industrial chemicals from domestic and commercial waste – and is looking for a site on Teeside. Solvert will ferment n-butanol, acetone, hydrogen and electricity from wet organic waste.

Led by a team of leaders from the UK waste and chemical business sectors, the company has so far secured $349,000 (£200,000) in financing from the Finance for Business North East Proof of Concept (POC) Fund managed by Northstar Ventures, along with grant support from Business Link and the North East Process Industry Cluster (NEPIC).

CEO Kris Wadrop told the Digest “Our primary focus in the UK for the first project is the chemical sector, however as the company grows and moves abroad we will undoubtedly also supply the biofuel sector as 3 of our 4 main products are biofuels.”
