Indiana mayors balk at 20-year MSW offtake agreements for ethanol

In Indiana, several mayors of Lake County are hesitant to sign 20-year agreements that would see their MSW go to the proposed Powers Energy of America MSW-to-ethanol plant because they say the technology isn’t yet proven. Powers’ website says it is. The lawyer for a major garbage trade group and a local waste industry official have said the county’s contract with Powers could violate legal precedent pertaining to the flow of trash and that legal options are being explored.
