Special events at the Advanced Biofuels Leadership Conference 2011

In addition to the presentations from more than 60 speakers and networking opportunities at the Advanced Biofuels Leadership Conference this year, here’s a look at special events throughout the week in DC, April 18-22, 2011.

1. Tuesday, 4/19. Special Interactive Leadership Workshop on Government Policy.

This year, we’ll be joined by the leadership of USDA, DOE, FAA, the Department of Transportation, the Roundtable on Sustainable Biofuels, the Department of Defense and more as we explore the very latest developments in government policy in an interactive environment.

Plus, we’ll have the heads of RFA, the Algal Biomass Organization, BIO, and the Advanced Biofuels Association on hand to present the latest on the unified policy development front.

2. Tuesday, 4/19. The 50 Hottest Companies in Bioenergy awards presentation, and CEO meet-up.

On the evening of Tuesday, April 19th, we’ll be hosting the 50 Hottest Companies in Bioenergy and their leaders and owners. The region of Champagne-Ardennes is hosting the reception at the Capital Hilton, and we’re looking forward to introducing and celebrating the winners, as well as hosting a mixer where attendees will have an unprecedented opportunity to get to know the leadership at the industry’s very hottest enterprises.

A record 19 of the Hot 50 companies will be presenting at ABLC this year, and even more CEOs will be in attendance at the awards reception. And we sure are excited to have Champagne-Ardennes as our sponsor – a region well worth knowing for its bioenergy opportunities, as well as its famous refreshments!

3. Wednesday, 4/20. Peer-participation Roundtable breakfasts.

Each year, we do roundtable breakfast where we explore key leadership topics – policy, finance, R&D, and more – in an informal environment. Your best chance to have a say – comments from the moderated roundtables are reported back to the conference as a whole, and of course become part of the official conference proceedings.

4. Wednesday, 4/20. Special Opening Address.

We are delighted to have Yom Tov Samia, President and Chairman of Primus Green Energy, and CEO of IC Green Energy, on the vital topic of “Drop in Biofuels: Addressing industry Myths and Misperceptions”.

5. Wednesday, 4/20. Global launch of the International Energy Agency Biofuels Technology Roadmap.

We are delighted that the IEA has selected the Advanced Biofuels Leadership Conference for the global launch of the IEA Biofuel Technology Roadmap. describing the required steps to get to a 27% biofuel share (32 EJ) in transport in 2050. The roadmap seeks to address all relevant stakeholders and lists detailed milestones and key actions that need to be taken to achieve this vision in a sustainable manner. In the IEA’s scenario, advanced biofuels will have an important role to play, and specific support measures, R&D gaps and technology milestones to get these technologies to commercial-scale are discussed in detail within the Roadmap. The IEA’s Bo Diczfalusy, Director of Sustainable Energy Technology and Policy, will take us through the Roadmap.

6.  Wednesday, 4/20. Special evening reception at the Australian Embassy.

Courtesy of Austrade and the Australian Government, we’ll be moving two blocks away in the evening to the Aussie embassy for the evening. One of the hottest regions in biofuels the past year, we’re delighted to have the opportunity to present the cream of Australia’s bioenergy and economic development leadership, as well as another outstanding mixer for conference participants in a beautiful setting.

7. Thursday, 4/21. Special Interactive Workshop on Military and Aviation Biofuels.

Courtesy of the Civil Aviation Alternative Fuels Initiative (CAAFI), and the Air Transport Association (ATA), we’ll host speakers from CAAFI, ATA, the FAA, the Defense Department, the Department of Agriculture, the US Navy, airlines, as well as s special focus on state-level intiatives looking at Georgia, Ohio, Washington state, and others

8. Thursday, 4/21. Special Interactive Workshop on Renewable Chemicals

Courtesy of ZeaChem, Cobalt Technologies, Blue Marble Biomaterials, Rivertop Renewables, OPX Biotechnologies, Chromatin, Targeted Growth and KL Energy, we’ll be looking at Balancing the Resource Demands of a Dual Advanced Biofuels and Renewable Chemicals and Biomaterials Development Strategy, as well as generating next-generation feedstocks and low-cost cellulosic sugars for the renewable chemicals scale-up.

9. Private events and meetings throughout the week.

Throughout the week, groups such as the ABFA, private organizations, and the conference participants, will be hosting private receptions and one-to-one business opportunity meetings, both on and off the conference floor. We encourage everyone to “network like crazy” throughout the week.
