Brazil behind on advanced ethanol R&D?

In Brazil, despite being a sugarcane powerhouse, experts are criticizing the sugar industry for being lax on cellulosic R&D, allowing countries like the US to dominate the research agenda and be first to market with commercial technologies.

The Cane Technology Center ran a cellulosic ethanol pilot plant with Dedini, Brazil’s largest supplier of equipment for mills, from 1997 through 2002 but the facility was closed due to lack of financing.
