Interjet, Airbus complete jatropha aviation biofuels trial in Mexico

April 4, 2011 |

In Mexico, the first Mexican aviation biofuels test flight was successfully completed by Interjet, CFM International, Honeywell’s UOP and Airbus. The test flight was from the Mexico City international airport to Aeropuerto Internacional Ángel Albino Corzo, de Tuxtla Gutiérrez, in Chiapas state.

The test flight, in an Interjet Airbus A320, used a mix of 73 percent convetional aviaion fuels, and 27 percent Bio-SPK fuel. Global Energías Renovables, as well as two other Mexican Jatropha producers, provided the seeds to Honeywell’s UOP for processing into bio-jet fuel. Global Energías Renovables operates the largest Jatropha farm in the Americas.

La Cronica covered the event in depth, here, in Spanish.
