Usina Cerradinho to produce sweet sorghum ethanol in Brazil

April 20, 2011 |

In Brazil, Usina Cerradinho will soon begin producing 1.2 million liters of ethanol from 1,200 hectares of sweet sorghum, which is being grown by Monsanto to try out its new hybrid varieties bred to increase ethanol production while ensuring enough biomass for co-gen.

Monsanto says using sweet sorghum can help to offset the supply problems currently suffered from sugarcane-based ethanol as it can be harvested during the interseason period and using the same harvesting equipment as cane.
