April 29, 2011 |

In Mozambique, Italian company Bioenergy will reportedly invest $20 million in growing jatropha in the southern Mozambican district of Moama. The seeds are to be exported to Italy for processing into biodiesel.  The project started in 2008, with 10 jatropha plants and has grown to 5,300 plants, covering 70 hectares.  Reportedly, the investment will increase the plantings to 120 hectares, including a 1.5 hectare nursery to produce 200 tonnes of jatropha.  According to the article, if 200 tonnes a season is achieved, the next phase will be to build a jatropha to biodiesel facility in Moamba.
