Green Plains profits drop as ethanol margins tighten

In Nebraska, tighter ethanol margins have cut Green Plains Renewable Energy’s profits by half for the first quarter of 2011 compared to the first quarter in 2010. The company’s CEO says that the corn price has doubled to $7 a bushel and “forward ethanol margins are compressed during the middle of the year with no clear visibility of acceptable margins.”
