Wheat Chex? Agrofert buys wheat ethanol plant in Czech Republic

June 1, 2011 |

In the Czech Republic, Agrofert Holding has bought a grain-based ethanol plant in Vrdy for an undisclosed price after the original owners Ethanol Energy suffered from high wheat prices, forcing the sale. The facility can process up to 150,000 tons of grain annually but can be expanded to reach up to 200,000 tons. The transaction is intended to strengthen the position of Agrofert in renewable energy and biofuels in Central Europe, while apparently giving room for the development of new products intended for food purposes.
