Biodiesel producers opening direct distribution channels to reduce prices

June 22, 2011 |

In California, biodiesel producers like Sirona in Oakland are offering direct sales to customers, reducing the middle man and offering fuel to consumers cheaper than at typical gas stations. In the case of Sirona, they offer biodiesel 25 cents a gallon cheaper than diesel at the typical pump. When they started selling to consumers and not just to retail outlets, they sold a thousand gallons to all new customers in just the first 10 days. The company produces about 50,000 gallons a month from used cooking oil.
