Genomatica surges to #1 in Hottest 30 companies in Renewable Chemicals voting

July 4, 2011 |

Genomatica surged into first place in the 30 Hottest Companies in Renewable Chemicals & Biomaterials, as voting returns began to filter in from the international panel of invited selectors. Gevo moved into second place, and Solazyme dropped back to third. Meanwhile, strategic investor Waste Management surged into 4th place, while Amyris slipped back into fifth position.

Rounding out the top ten in voting to date are: LS9, Cargill, DDCE, Enerkem and ZeaChem.

Selector voting, as expected, focused more on pure-play renewable chemical companies, with Genomatica, Elevance, Myriant, Metabolix, and Cobalt Technologies making the top 30 in selector voting to date.

“It’s still early days in the voting, especially with the invited selectors,” cautioned Biofuels Digest editor Jim Lane. “It’s still very much a wide open competition, as shown by the strong surge by companies like IneosBio, ZeaChem, LS9 and Genomatica.”
