Jamaica sees opportunities in US advanced biofuels targets

July 8, 2011 |

In Jamaica, Jamaica Broilers Group may be able to capitalize on the RFS cap on conventional biofuels that describe sugar cane derived ethanol as an advanced biofuel.  As a result of U.S. tax exemptions granted under the Caribbean Basin Initiative, JBG is anticipating that their ethanol earnings will return to being above their other business segments as they look to the next business year and beyond.

Iann Persard, JBG VP of finance and energy, stated, “From next year onwards the mandate is calling for increased amounts of advanced biofuels. From next year going on we anticipate that the throughput of ethanol from Brazil through the CBI to the US will increase.”
