Don't go for the filthy fuels, ABFA says to Senators

July 22, 2011 |

The Advanced Biofuels Association (ABFA) today sent a letter to U.S. Senator Jeff Bingaman (D-NM), Chairman Energy and Natural Resources Committee, and U.S. Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), Ranking Member, opposing any efforts to repeal Section 526 of the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007, which prohibits Federal Agencies from contracting for fuels that pollute more than conventional petroleum.

The US Air Force has been developing a synthetic jet fuel, from coal, that would provide it an alternative to conventional jet fuels, but is barred from purchasing such fuels at scale by EISA because of its significantly higher emissions.
