New wood plastic pellet technology from Crown Research, Sonae Industria

August 1, 2011 |

In New Zealand, Crown Research Institute Scion has licensed a new wood plastic pellet technology with Sonae Industria.  The licensing agreement gives Sonae an exclusive license to commercialize the technology in Europe.  The technology enables production of wood plastic composites with long wood fibre reinforcement, which are easily fed into conventional extruders and injection moulders and processed as biobased fibre reinforced plastics.

Sonae has named the product “WoodForce”, with applications possibly including decking, fencing, pallets, furniture, automotive parts, appliance housings, computer peripherals and more.
