Philippines OKs ethanol imports to ease shortage

August 1, 2011 |

In the Philippines, the National Biofuels Board approved letting local oil companies to import 236 million liters of ethanol to meet fuel blending requirements.  This is based on an estimated Philippine ethanol demand of 265 million liters, with local supply expected to be only 29 million liters.  While the Republic Biofuels Act called for an initial ethanol blend of 5%, the blend was supposed to reach 10% in 2011, but the deadline has been postponed to August for both higher and lower octane fuels, with all gasoline to be E10 by February 2012.
