France's duck fat glut? Biodiesel for tractors, now

August 9, 2011 |

In France, a farmers cooperative in St. Aquilin in Dordogne have begun collecting the over-abundant duck fat in the region to produce biodiesel for their tractors and other farm equipment. Though there are also pig and calf renderings as well as some used cooking oil included in the mixture, the vast majority is duck fat.

Another cooperative in Bergerac is using duck fat in its five biogas demonstration plants with a larger-sized project that will produce 360kwh of electricity per year.
