Louisiana biodiesel plant re-opens

August 10, 2011 |

In Louisiana, Vanguard Synfuels biodiesel plant in Pollock has been brought back online after a several-year pause, bringing with it 25 new jobs. The facility, which started its life in the 1970s as an ammonia plant, was reborn into a soybean-based biodiesel plant in 2003 but shut down in 2007 when the feedstock got too expensive.

The plant which secured $10.4 in loans from Union Bank and grants from the USDA Rural Development program is now multi-feedstock using used oils, grease and animal tallows.
