Neste, Dow, Raizen continue to struggle in first-round Transformative Technology contests

August 17, 2011 |

In Florida, Neste Oil joined Dow and Raizen among big biotech brands currently trailing in first-round match-ups in the 2011 Transformative Technologies tournament. Currently, #14 seed Abengoa Bioenergy leads #3 Raizen 54-46 in the International Regional, while DSM has pulled ahead of Neste Oil 55-45.

32 first round battles will continue in the voting until Friday at 5pm Eastern Time, with winners proceeding to second round voting which begins on Monday, August 22nd.

Over in the Central Region, Waste Management is leading Dow Chemical 59-41, while #9 seed OPX Biotechnologies has edged in front of #8 seed Elevance, 51-49. In the East Region, surprises include a 6 point lead which #12 seed Monsanto is maintaining over #5 seeded algal fuels pioneer Algenol. #2 seed KiOR is locked 50-50 with #15 seed Butamax in what may prove to be the most surprising upset if it occurs, considering KiOR’s recently celebrated IPO.

Races that tightened on day two included Enerkem-Syngenta, in which Enerkem clung to a narrowed 53-47 lead, while Ceres’ lead over Synthetic Genomics dropped to 57-43, the dame margin by which Honeywell’s UOP is now leading GlycosBio.

The results to date can be seen in an updated tournament bracket, downloadable here.
