Background: This is a second round, East Regional match-up between #4 seed Qteros and #5 seed Algenol, in the 2011 Transformative Technologies tourney, from Biofuels Digest.

Laurels: Qteros is the 8th ranked company in the 2010-11 50 Hottest Companies in Bioenergy poll. Algenol is currently #26.

The match-up: It’s advanced cellulosic ethanol – but feedstocks such as corn stover from Qteros, vs algae from Algenol. Qteros took 67 percent of the votes in its first round battle with Inbicon. Algenol squeaked by Monsanto by a single vote.

Algenol’s revolutionary process produces ethanol from microalgae grown in low-cost plastic bioreactors.

Qteros is developing the Q Microbe for consolidated bioprocessing, and has a partnership with Praj to incorporate its magic bug in a process Development Package that Praj will offer to its customers.
