Sapphire Energy, KiOR, ZeaChem trailing as Transformative Technologies round 2 voting begins

August 22, 2011 |

In Florida, Sapphire Energy, KiOR and ZeaChem are unexpectedly trailing, and POET, Coskata, Waste Management, LanzaTech in close battles as 2nd round voting got underway in the Transformative Technologies 2011 competition.

The shocker of the day was #11 seed OriginOil opening up a 62-38 first-day lead over Sapphire Energy, while #6 seed Terrabon got out to a 61-39 lead over #3 seed ZeaChem.

In the Central Regional, #7 seed Waste Management was statistically tied with #2 seed Virent, 50-50 percent each, while #4 seed POET was struggling to gain traction over Honeywell’s UOP, with POET landing 52 percent of the early votes.

In the East Regional, #1 seed Coskata – in a battle of bitter rivals, was leading by 51-49 percent over #9 seed INEOS Bio. But the Eastern surprise was the strong showing by #7 seed Joule Unlimited, which led 52-48 over catalytic pyrolysis developer KiOR.

Other first seeds Gevo, Amyris and Solazyme were well ahead in their respective match-ups.
