Second-round match-ups open for voting in Transformative Technologies 2011

August 22, 2011 |

32 companies left in Transformative Technologies 2011 – Who’s the Best? Voting opens in 16 second-round battles.

Today is the first day for second-round voting in the Transformative Technologies 2011 tournament – at close of voting at 5pm ET on Friday Augsut 26th, 16 contestants will advance to the third round.

Transformative Technologies is a subscriber-voted, “knock-out” tournament which measures the impact of the competitor’s technologies on the bioenergy landscape.

Data on the competitors

More than 400 pages of data on all the competitors (and more) is available here – also, individual match-ups (below) include links to the most recent profiles submitted by companies for the 2011-12 50 Hottest Companies in Bioenergy, which is coming up for voting in the 4th quarter of 2011.

“In the second round, every one of these companies has a highly-regarded, transformative set of technologies,” commented Biofuels Digest editor Jim Lane. “Any one of them could end up a big winner in the race to replace conventional transportation fuels, chemicals and materials. It will be fascinating to see how the Digest subscribers – looking at a broad array of technologies and having to cut the list down by half, just as investors, banks and grant-makers do – decide on the technologies that have the right stuff to advance to the Sweet Sixteen.”

Key 2nd round battles

Among the most interesting match-ups this week: a battle for Southern California algae dominance between Sapphire Energy and OriginOil, the battle for “Best in Texas” between KiOR and Joule, and a fascinating title between Coskata and INEOS Bio, which both utilize gas fermentation technology and have been embroiled in a dispute over trade secrets.

Voting is open to all Biofuels Digest subscribers. Voting links are in the Biofuels Digest daily newsletter.
