In India, Ruchi Soya is in talks with the Uttarakhand state government to revive the 20,000 hectare jatropha plantation and biodiesel plant at Roorkee area of Haridwar district after a corruption scandal brought Uttaranchal Biodiesel Ltd. to a halt in 2007. Ruchi Soya recently bought the defunct company as a first step in the project’s revival and talks with the local government are ongoing. The plan is to produce jatropha oil for use in biojet fuel.
