Italian biodiesel production plummets as imports flood market

In Italy, biodiesel production is expected to fall 18% to just 600,000 metric tons this year as cheap imports flood the local market, supplying nearly 70% of the demand. Most biodiesel produced in the country uses imported palm oil or other feedstocks, but the imported biodiesel is often cheaper than the imported feedstocks.
