Absolute Fuels' path to RIN fraud, detailed

November 3, 2011 |

In Texas, recently unsealed affidavits show that Absolute Fuels tried twice to produce biodiesel but in the end failed both times before it succeeded in selling RINs worth $40 million.

Federal authorities began investigating the company in May but there were concerns about whether or not they were producing the 35 million gallons of biodiesel that were represented by the RINs as early as December 2010. Federal agents seized more than $4.5 million in cash and luxury goods—including expensive cars and a personal jet—in relation to federal wire fraud charges.
