Shell Canada mulls cellulosic ethanol plant in Manitoba

November 7, 2011 |

In Canada, Shell Canada is considering building a cellulosic ethanol plant in Manitoba. The area produces various types of straw that would provide an ideal feedstock for the plant.

Through its investment in the Raizen JV with Cosan, Shell is an investor in Iogen, the Canadian-based cellulosic ethanol pioneer that has been operating a pilot plant since 2004. The company is currently doing a feasibility and environmental assessment and meeting with local stakeholders to discuss the proposed plan.
