Researchers discover new chloroplast-dividing gene

November 11, 2011 |

In Michigan, Michigan State University researchers have found a new gene, that may lead to improvements in crops through either genetic manipulation or breeding, especially as related genes are present in soybeans, corn, wheat and other crops.  The gene, referred to as CLMP1, helps explain how chloroplast divides in cells, its dispersal and the avoidance of clumping.
