USDA publishes "The Renewable Identification Number System and U.S. Biofuel Mandates."

November 16, 2011 |

In Washington, the USDA’s Economic Research Service has published the study “The Renewable Identification Number System and U.S. Biofuel Mandates,” which says that biodiesel RINs traded at significantly higher prices during 2011 than ethanol RINs, implying a more binding biodiesel mandate with mandate-driven effects on markets for soybean oil and other biodiesel feedstocks.

The USDA expects at least 50% of the billion gallons of biodiesel blended annually for the next four or five years will come from soy oil.
