EU starts up investigation into alleged US ethanol dumping

November 17, 2011 |

In Belgium, the European Commission is preparing to launch an investigation into whether US ethanol producers are receiving unfair subsidies before exporting their fuel to Europe. The move is a result of an official complaint by EU ethanol producers and is the precursor to a complaint to the WTO.

The investigation that will begin this month will look into allegations that US ethanol sold in Europe is up to 20% cheaper than in its home market, as well as if the VEETC allows US exporters to cut their sales price to Europe by 40%.
