Green Plains: era of ethanol asset fire-sales is over

November 22, 2011 |

In Iowa, Green Plains Renewables says that the days of snapping up cheap ethanol assets are over, as all opportunities for buying up the right equipment at the right location for under $1 per gallon of installed capacity have been bought up.

The company hopes to break ground by the end of the year on its five-acre test algae farm that will use carbon dioxide captured at Green Plains’ Shenandoah, Iowa, plant and could eventually be expanded to 400 acres.
