Statoil to distribute cellulosic ethanol from Borregaard

November 24, 2011 |

In Norway, Statoil will for the first time ever blend ethanol produced from Norwegian timber from the bio refinery Borregaard and will be available to Statoil customers who tank fuel95 at Statoil stations in the eastern region of Norway.

Statoil Fuel & Retail in Norway has signed an agreement to buy all available ethanol from Borregaard, approximately 44,000 litres per month. Borregaard bio-ethanol is produced by extracting sugar from the timber, which becomes ethanol through fermentation. Statoil Fuel & Retail will receive its first delivery of ethanol on Nov. 10. The ethanol will then be blended with transport fuel at Sjursøya in Oslo and distributed to Statoil-stations in the eastern region of Norway.
