Sugarbeets headed for EPA review as biofuels feedstock

December 7, 2011 |

In North Dakota, beet team members at NDSU and Green Vision Group have applied for classification of energy beets as an advanced biofuel feedstock from the Environmental Protection Agency. In 2008, sugarbeets were listed as advanced biofuel feedstocks along with sugarcane but since 2009 they haven’t been.

The group has also applied for a grant from the Renewable Energy Council to do more research on storage based on European results that show beets can be stored year-round.
