Georgia city to launch waste oil biodiesel production, targets $250K savings

In Georgia, the city of Smyrna is will open a biodiesel plant in January that will produce fuel from used cooking oil collected from the community. The biodiesel will be used to fuel public vehicles with the intention of reducing fossil fuel consumption of service vehicles by 25% by 2020, fossil fuel emissions by 25% by 2025 and save approximately $25,000 per year in the process.

The project is modeled on a similar one undergone by the city of Hoover, Alabama.
