30% better mileage than gasoline with E85 engine

December 15, 2011 |

In Massachuessets, Ethanol Boosting Systems of Cambridge has developed an E85 engine that delivers diesel efficiency that could translate to at 30% better mileage than a typical gas engine.

According to Car and Driver, EBS adds a second complete fuel system that enables an engine to run on port-injected gas during cruising and direct-injected E85 only during full-load conditions to spare its consumption rather than UK-based Ricardo whose E85 engine uses aggressive turbocharging.
