OnSite Energy, MSU launch phase II of Freeway to Fuels project

December 15, 2011 |

In Michigan, OnSite Energy has teamed with Michigan State University for the second phase of the Freeway to Fuels project that explores the feasibility of growing, harvesting and utilizing bioenergy crops last year on unconventional growing lands in Michigan, such as highway right-of-ways, vacant urban land and airport property.

Together they have developed a portable production unit that features oilseed crushing press capability for conversion into methyl esters that mounted in an enclosed cargo trailer and it can be pulled from farm to farm to teach farmers how to make their own biodiesel. They say that producing fuel onsite can save farmers $1 a gallon.
