December 22, 2011 |

In Thailand, Netherland’s based-SkyNRG supplied Thai Airways for the first passenger biofuel flight in Asia. The special flight TG8421 departed from Bangkok Suvarnabhumi International Airport on Wednesday December 21 and returned 20 minutes later without mishap.

The first commercial flight will be Thursday with TG Flight 104 from Bangkok to Chiang Mai in northern Thailand. The eight tons of biofuel cost $83,333.

“Flights using biofuels  to ensure safety standards and I believe that in the next six to seven years biofuels will be used in more airports, paving the way for Thailand to produce more biofuel crops like jatropha and palm oil,” said THAI chief executive officer Piyavasti Amranand and former energy minister.
