Spanish project will develop bioplastic from almond nut shells

In Spain, Cidetec-IK4 technological center will be leading a project to develop bioplastic from waste by using nanotechnology.  Waste products will include almond nut shells, banana plants, and crustacean shells.  The project will run from 2012 to 2014, with partners from companies, organizations and/or universities in Chile, Columbia, Belgium, Germany and Spain.  The principal concern is to find feedstocks that do not compete with agricultural food sources.
