Poland steers biofuels mandate toward domestic producers

January 9, 2012 |

In Poland, the government has announced that fuel blenders can reduce their biofuel requirements by 15% if they buy at least 70% of the biofuel from sources registered with the national agricultural marketing agency ARR. Though some fear the rules will favor Polish biofuel production, the country doesn’t have enough production capacity to supply its entire blending mandate.

The mandate is currently just below 6%, though the 2012 blend was expected to be 6.65%. The ARR says that any EU or European Economic Area company is allowed to register for biofuel supply, saying the requirements will make it easier to track biofuel trading flows.
