January 17, 2012 |

In Kenya, the National Environmental Management Authority has given approval to Tower Power to build a $20.7 million 11.5MW electricity plant in Marigat, Baringo County that will run on the Prosopis Juliflora tree popularly known as “Mathenge”. The area has a forest of 30,000 ha of the invasive plant, which the company says is enough to feed the facility for 10 years. The tree has invaded 15 counties and covers roughly 200,000ha.
